of contradiction. let's remember the politicization of the benghazi issue started with the mitt romney campaign, on the night of the attack. he then harangued the entire republican caucus into joining him on that. now the mitt romney campaign is gone leaving guys like john mccain holding the bag. he's committed to the strategy and has to go forward. now that president obama called him out on public television during a press conference, he has no choice but to double down. and stories like these where he missed the hearing that he was calling for undermine his argument that the obama administration is not giving him enough information. and pushes him back into the argument the obama administration is lying, or misrepresenting or intentionally politicizing the tragedy. that's a much tougher argument to make. and that's the fight the obama administration wants to have. so john mccain's really on his heels. >> that point, about which argument the obama administration wants to have, i mean, the thing that tripped up mitt romney on this in that debate is that he believed what conservative media had b

matthews in los angeles. let me start tonight with this. we know how mitt romney is without a script the words that come in to his head like the 47% stuff that came out in may is bad. his default switch says blame the little guy, call him a parasite. gifts, that's what the little guy wants. the older person, the hard up youth, pay up, scratch, cross their palms and they will pull the lever for you. cash and carry. smart conservatives know this is no way to treat a potential voter. it was put this way in the "new york post." romney didn't say the election came out as it did because obama's team outplayed and outfoxed his. he should have because that's the truth. he said obama won the second term through essentially bribery. i have three rules for both parties as they converge to do their jobs. respect the vote are. respect each other's offices and search hard for common ground. that's what we should be doing and guiding our country's conversation. not trashing the people who voted against you but respecting the fact that they did for your own good. washington bureau chief from mother

happened at the end there, mr. romney's face-plant failed attempt at calling the president out for something that the conservative media said he had done, that he had not actually done. but what happened right before that at that debate was president obama defending susan rice and hillary clinton directly, by their titles, and condemning as offensive mitt romney trying to say that that attack was being covered up or that the country was being misled about it. that is what we saw again today on full blast, at the president's first press conference after being re-elected. the beltway common wisdom on this is that president obama is picking a fight with his secretary of state nomination if he does pick susan rice for that position. and when the beltway accuses you of picking a fight, they always mean, oh, no, no, you shouldn't do that. but seeing the president up there talking about this today with such fire in the belly and seeing as he did that as well in the debate when the same subject came up, i think this may be something more than just picking a fight. there's plenty of rea
